Meet Lou

Louis M. (Lou) Reda, a retired Pennsylvania State Police Corporal and current Peters Township Police Corporal, is announcing his intent to run for the office of Washington County Sheriff.

During his more than 25 years as a member of the Pennsylvania State Police, Reda has served in many positions within the Department.  He has worked as a Patrol Trooper, Patrol Unit Supervisor, Criminal Investigation Unit Supervisor and Drug Law Enforcement Division Supervisor working in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security, U. S. Customs and Border Protection and the United States Postal Inspection Service.  After retiring, with an honorable discharge, from the State Police, he served as the Assistant Director of Public Safety at Washington & Jefferson College.  He is currently a supervisor for the Peters Township Police Department and a member of the Washington County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force.

The Sheriff is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in the county whose duties and responsibilities are varied and include the security and protection of all County buildings and parks, transporting prisoners and dependent/delinquent children, conduct the sale of real estate and personal property, serve criminal, domestic and bench warrants, oversee the issuance of license to carry firearms, enforce court orders and laws of the Commonwealth and to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Reda said, “While many qualified candidates may vie for the office of Sheriff, I believe that voters will find that none possess a background as comprehensive and diverse as I have amassed in the past three decades.  My background combines a multitude of operational assignments along with management and supervisory positions in one of the most respected law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth.  My experience, thus far, will allow me to serve the citizens of Washington County as their next Sheriff.  I believe these qualifications are a prerequisite to seek this office.  If elected, I pledge to serve as Sheriff with professionalism, credibility, leadership, transparency, honor and respect for all.”

Lou Reda, 52, attended Immaculate Conception High School (Washington, Pa.), Washington & Jefferson College (Washington, Pa.), and The Pennsylvania State Police Academy.  He is a lifelong resident of Washington County and resides in North Strabane Township with his son.
